ディズニー『アナと雪の女王』の「Let it go」に出てくる難しい英単語や英文もストーリーがわかれば見えてくる

アレンデール王国の姉妹エルサとアナは仲良しで、王女エルサは生まれつき周囲を凍りつかせる能力をもっていました。幼い頃その能力のせいで妹に傷を負わせてしまい。以後その能力をずっと隠してきました。しかしエルサが女王の戴冠式を行う頃、パーティーで出会ったハンス王子と妹が結婚すると言い出したことによる口論がきっかけで能力が発露してしまい王国に甚大な被害をもたらしてしまいました。エルサは北の山中に逃げましたが「Let it go」はそのときのエルサの心情を歌った曲。

「let it go」は行かせようから転じて諦めのような心情の表現「もういいや」的な。映画を見た流れだとエルサがこれまでしてきた努力が思い起こされる。

罪と罰と法

重い罪を犯したものを死刑に処すということは社会秩序を形成する上で重要なことである。罪に対する罰は無論罪人のためのものであるが、それに加えて、罪を思いとどまらせるための抑止力としての意味がある。罪は社会的合意の上に成り立つ。それは殺人・窃盗・傷害・詐欺といったことである。これらを罪と定めず罰しなかった場合、人々はこれらの罪的行為から身を守るための労力を各自がつぎ込まなければならなくなる。それは社会的秩序が形成された社会に比べれば著しく非効率的な社会という事になる。人は社会秩序の上に安心して効率の良い生活を送ることができる。それが社会の発展につながり、その恩恵を将来にわたって人々が受けることに繋がってくる。したがって死刑というものは必要なものである。しかし、気を付けなければならないのは罪というものは社会的な合意の上に成り立つという点である。この合意の正しさをどのように保証するのかということである。正しさというものは立場が絡んでくる故に相対的なものである。多数決という考え方ですら少数派の立場を無視しているのだ。この正しさというものを法に落とし込もうとした場合、ある程度落としどころを決めるしかないのである。だから私は法というものは仮的なのものだと思っている。法というものはどこまでも判例の積み重ねによって真の法に近づいていかねばならない。
